MIXED MEDIA

BRIGHTER DAYS

2020 had been a year filled with unknowns and apprehension related to Covid.  In 2021 I set out to create a piece that represented our hope and optimism for brighter days ahead.

STREAMS & SHORES

This piece was created for the 2022 Trail Mix Exhibit at the Whit Gallery in St. Cloud, MN.  The show's theme was the environment and the importance of protecting it.  Using repurposed ad natural materials, I was inspired by the thousands of lakes, rivers and shorelines that make up my home state of Minnesota.

RESURRECTION

Starting at the purple cross in the center of the tomb, God's glory rises through shades of yellow, gradually fading into pure white.  Purple represents royalty & power.  Yellow represents joy & hope.  White represents purity, perfection and righteousness.

"God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners".     Romans 5:8

IN THE WAITING

I created this as an expression of our family's journey through hospice with my father-in-law in the fall of 2022.  When Autie was in hospice there was so much beauty and pain and living and dying happening all at once.  It was a time of waiting for the scales to balance but not being ready for what had to happen to bring that balance back.  And then, by the grace of God...Peace.

SUMMER DAYS

The technique used in this piece is inspired by soutache beaded jewelry.  The flow of the canvas background is determined by the floral shapes creating the relaxed feel of a summer breeze.

BLUE DEVILS RUN

"Blue Devils" is defined as a period of depression, melancholy, or despondence.

This piece represents the often-repeating cycle that a person living with depression or anxiety may battle throughout their life.  The gradual or sudden shift from good days to the dark days, and at its worst...the "deep, dark place".

Still Growing

Still Growing speaks to the quiet hope of the Christian life: that in surrender, seeking wisdom, and in abiding, growth continues. True spiritual growth often happens not in grand displays, but in the unseen, humble spaces—when we lean into God's presence, trust His timing, and allow ourselves to be held by His grace. Like the snake plant, we may not always appear to be changing, but beneath the surface, God is shaping us—refining our hearts, strengthening our roots, and preparing us to flourish in due season.
In a culture that celebrates instant results and visible success, this piece serves as a reminder that Christ invites us into a slower, deeper way. We are not called to strive endlessly, but to remain—planted in His Word, nourished by His Spirit, and anchored in His promises. Just as the soil holds the plant, His grace holds us. Just as the light draws the leaves upward, His love draws us closer.
Even in dry seasons, even in silence or stillness, God is faithful to finish what He started in us. We are planted with purpose, sustained by grace, and always—still growing.

Peaceful Perch

Peaceful Perch captures a moment of quiet refuge. Inspired by the peace that comes from faith in Jesus, the lone bird finds rest among swirling branches and fluttering leaves, symbolizing a place of safety and renewal. The natural forms surrounding the bird echo the nurturing presence of God, who shelters us in times of weariness.
This piece reflects the promise found in Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” It is an invitation to find rest not through our own efforts, but through the grace freely given by Christ.
Through this collage, I hope to express the deep comfort and hope that grace brings—a reminder that no matter the storms around us, we can find a haven of peace in Jesus.

Rooted in Glory

Recently, I had a chance to revisit some pieces from early in my artistic journey, and it stirred something in me. I found a simple ink drawing I had originally created as a coloring page, and it felt like the right moment to breathe new life into it—this time, through the lens of everything I’ve learned since then. I wanted to add color in a way that felt fresh, expressive, and true to where I am now as an artist.

I began by resketching and scaling the original image, breaking it into sections to reflect the depth I envisioned. Using these as templates, I cut layers from foam board to add dimension. For color, I used one of my favorite techniques—monoprinting with gelli plates—but with a twist: I let the paint dry on the plate, then peeled off full sheets of acrylic to use as collage material. Wrapping each foam layer in this hand-painted “paper” let me cover the surfaces with precision, adding vibrant color, texture, and a glossy finish.

Art has been such a meaningful part of my life—a true blessing. I always try to honor God through the work I create. With this piece, my hope is that it brings to mind a time when nature spoke to you—reminding you of God’s glory, His boundless creativity, and the deep love He has for you.

Riverside

Holy Water
by We the Kingdom

Dead man walking, slave to sin
I wanna know about being born again
I need You
Oh, God, I need You

So, take me to the riverside
Take me under, baptize
I need You
Oh, God, I need You

I don't wanna abuse Your grace
God, I need it every day
It's the only thing that ever really
Makes me wanna change

Oh, it's like Holy water on my skin
